Traffic/Ordinance Violations

Appearance is not required on most traffic and ordinance citations unless otherwise indicated.

If you do not appear in court on the date printed on your citation, you will be found guilty by default. The fine/forfeiture will be due within 60 days from judgment. Failure to pay or make payment arrangements with the Clerk of Courts office may result in commitment order, license suspension, tax intercept, civil judgment, and/or turning the debt over to the Department of Revenue, which will result in additional costs to you.

If you wish to contest your ticket, a written plea of “not guilty” will be accepted by mail or in person in advance and must be filed before your court date. A court trial will then be scheduled. Negotiations may be initiated by the District Attorney or Prosecuting Agency prior to the court trial.
