DAV Van

COVID-19 – Currently there are no restrictions on the DAV Van due to COVID. Masks are at the discretion of passengers and drivers. The Iron Mountain VAMC is requiring masks until further notice.

Scheduling a ride

To schedule a ride to your VA appointments call the DAV Van reservation line at: (715) 369-6227.

All reservations MUST be scheduled no later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday the week before your appointment but we ask that you please reserve your seat as soon as you have your appointment. All the drivers are volunteers and we cannot guarantee one will be available on short notice. No reservations for the following week will be accepted after 4:00 p.m. the Thursday before the week you want to ride. The van runs Monday through Thursday and does not leave Rhinelander before 6:30 a.m. If you’re planning to use the van for your transportation needs, we suggest scheduling your appointment no earlier than 9:00 a.m. in order to ensure you get there on time. We cannot guarantee you will make it to Iron Mountain on time for an earlier appointment because there may be other stops along the way.

Care Givers
The DAV does allow care givers to travel with the veteran if they provide a letter from the veteran’s doctor stating that the care giver is needed.

Additional Information

The van leaves Iron Mountain when the last veteran is done with their appointment but absolutely no later than at 3:00 p.m.

Riders must be at their pick-up point 10 minutes prior to their pick-up time.  If the rider is not at their pick-up point when the driver gets there, the driver may not be able to wait because other veterans have to get to their appointments.

The van driver is not allowed to lift or attend medically to any patient.

The van driver is only permitted to stop at designated pick-up points.  Passengers should not request the driver to pick them up from or drop them off at their home or make side trips to take care of their personal business.

DAV Transportation Routes

The Disabled American Veterans Transportation Service provides safe and reliable transportation to veterans who require assistance traveling to and from the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center. Unfortunately, the van is not able to assist with transporting veterans who are wheelchair bound or require the use of oxygen equipment. The Oneida County Veterans Service Office coordinates the DAV van which serves veterans’ transportation needs from:
Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida, Price, and Vilas counties.
